Have you ever had to make a difficult decision between what you would like to do or your personal prefrence, and what you think is right? Well this is what Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, had to do many times in the story, The Hobbit. There are many instances in which the poor hobbit encounters dangerous creatures or situations. Of course everybody knows that hobbits (well most of them...) hate adventures, most have never been on one in their entire life. So observing the signs that show that Bilbo must be one of these kinds of hobbits, (page 4, paragraph 1 and page 31, end of the first paragraph) I am sure he must of felt very confused of how he ended up in the situation that he is experiencing at this moment. I am not surprised that he wishes that he were back at home in his safe and cozy hobbit hole. (page 36, paragraph 1) I definitely would if I were fighting goblins and wargs and trying to tell perplexing riddles to save my life. Although it is quite evident at times that Bilbo may wish he was anywhere but on that adventure he does not turn back. He has a couple opportunities to do so yet he ignores every one of them. It is possible that the only reason that Bilbo is still on this adventure because he knew that it was the right thing to do to help the dwarves, but could it be something more? Maybe it's because of the Tookish feeling growing inside of him that makes him curious and adventurous or possibly because he knew that the dwarves needed him so they could succeed in getting back the stolen gold, but then again, who really knows for sure? Although one thing is certain, Bilbo has and still is uncovering many skills and abilities that he would never know that he had if he had not gone on this adventure. Good conflict! I wish you had named it in the piece. There were not too many of you who chose a conflict of character against himself. I sure love your writer's voice. I think we could work on word choice and that would make your voice even stronger. Maybe when you are home one night with nothing to do, you could read it word by word aloud to Mom or Dad. I think you might hear the spots that you could strengthen. When you cite your page, you just need to give me the number - no paragraphs. Good choice! ~Mrs. Best
